2) I'll look up what I'm using but AFAIR my setup is far from perferct. I'd be glad if we'd find a solution that covers every aspect. E.g. I've tried to install Parallels 4 and that didn't work - presumably because my NC10 isn't properly identified as a mac!? So far as I'm aware, none of the SMBIOS kexts work (properly) on 10.5.6. This is apparently being worked on, but in addition the next release of the Chameleon bootloader, which is also expected to roll-in Munky's efi_boot, will have full support for specifying SMBIOS overrides in Boot.plist, removing the need to a separate kext. Microsoft's Silverlight also refuses to install, thinking that the machine is PowerPC. This can be fixed by manually extracting the Archive.pax.gz from the installer and then copying the resulting bundle into Library/Internet Plug-Ins. Would a similar approach work with Parallels? 3) Stuart (srcshelton) posted a Boot.plist which enables the video to work without the Natit.kext. AFAIK you'd still need to patch the video kext to work with the device ID of the gfx card. http://blog.stuart.shelton.me/archives/238#comment-6857 There's a script floating around somewhere, which I seem to have misplaced currently, which automagically copies the system video drivers and runs Perl against the Info.plists to modify them, without needing any manual intervention. This makes is easy to run 10.5.6 drivers on 10.5.6, rather than sticking with older ones. Might outdated drivers even be the cause of some of the VGA-out problems? 4) I-m afraid I can't help you here. I'm still running the old version of the bios. I've got my corrected DSDT.aml from Stuart's weblog (google is your friend) but that presumably won't help you. http://blog.stuart.shelton.me/downloads/ 10.5.6 doesn't actually need the DSDT fix in order to boot, but this does ensure that Darwin is given equal hardware access as Vista, and does ensure that HPETs are enabled and interrupts are routed to them - so it can't do any harm. The DSDT hasn't changed between firmware 02.CA and 04.CA, so this is safe to use on all NC10 hardware. |

I added the old framebuffer driver in nc10 files section for those of you desperately need the clone screen function.
the installer will install old framebuffer and remove the current natit as old fb contains the functions to detect the display auto. stuart: vga out is not problem of old/new drivers. it is some sort of fb related, and new fb is ok in desktop extension however, cloning has problem caused by the new/changed FB functions. Older fb which doesnt need natit (has display value) and works with cloning and extension as well, however it has more artifacts than the newer ones. Since these gma950s are not exact identical graphics (due to firmware and hw customization, also the OSX efi factor in it) we will always have trouble here and there... that is the sacrifice people need to make |

I assume that you've not replaced the stock Wifi card? The error usually occurs when MacOS tries to read the MAC address of your primary ethernet port to use as a Unique Identifier. However, given that neither the onboard LAN nor the stock WLAN work out of the box (and bluetooth IDs work somewhat differently) this fails - which could lead on to all sorts of problems. I'm afraid that the fix for this problem is to replace the stock Wifi card with a working Broadcom variant. (It may also be solved through the use of a USB ethernet adapter - such as the one which Apple sells for use with the (real Yes you were right: yesterday I have removed the airport card from my mac mini (I use it as media center connected to my tv) and added to my NC10 and those errors disappeared. Also I have correct file names inside ~Library/Preferences/ByHost with the MAC address of the WiFi card. I have now only some minor issues: - my UK keyboard still doesn't map correctly the characters even if I have installed the UK_Keyboard fix from Mysticus. Do I need to I need to do anything else after installing the package and logging out? - I can't switch to audio output to use the headphone. I have read something about using CHUD. I have installed it already but I could find the instructions on how to use it in this long thread. Couldn't it be great to have a FAQ section for each fix/workaround that point to the correct number of post in this thread? - Still monitor mirroring is not working, but I am waiting Mysticus C for the old fb to test it out - touchpad sensitivity it's too high, especially in vertical direction - Finally, I hear the fan constantly on, but at very low RPM, audible only in the night, on even if I am not doing anything. I guess this is why no proper speedstepping or powermanagement is handled by the system. Is there any experimental support to speedstepping, fan control? Apart of those small issues, I am very happy of this small toy (I have stitched today an apple logo over the samsung writing) and I want to thank you everybody here for all the support All the best I added the old framebuffer driver in nc10 files section for those of you desperately need the clone screen function. the installer will install old framebuffer and remove the current natit as old fb contains the functions to detect the display auto. stuart: vga out is not problem of old/new drivers. it is some sort of fb related, and new fb is ok in desktop extension however, cloning has problem caused by the new/changed FB functions. Since these gma950s are not exact identical graphics (due to firmware and hw customization, also the OSX efi factor in it) we will always have trouble here and there... that is the sacrifice people need to make Thank u mysticus C, I am gonna give a try to it later. So the only drawback is that I can have some artifacts. I didn't experienced artifacts with the current (natit) one. Anyway, I have tried in those days with several different monitor, and the beheaviour is sometime random: with the very monitor there are times it works fine and some with no supported mode error (in those case I have found a solution anyway: click on gather window and I am able to change the resolution of the external monitor just clicking to another one and again back to the one that said to be unsupported but this time it does). Anyway, at the end extended mode works fine for my job: keynote supports the extended display allowing to see in the primary one times, notes and following slide, while the full screen presentation on the external one. So it's even better I have only be sure that it will work always!!!!! thanks a lot Ciao |

milton:
+ i added the old fb driver to nc10 files section already + after installing uk kb fix package, you need go to system preferences / international /input menu and choose the UK layout, tick show input menu in menu bar, and choose uk layout, and disable the show input menu in menu bar option + audio switching works with azaliaaudio and the scripts (also chud package needs to be installed) + touchpad sensitivity problem exists and not much we can do due to its funny shape + there are some speedstep management (sort of) drivers but try on your own, as everyone getting different results from it... (it doesnt really bother me so i m not using anything at the moment for it... fan noise is really ignorable level unless u have way to sesitive ears... + artifacts happen when you go in and out of menus too many times...... |

I've installed the Bluetooth fix, restarted etc, but see no options to turn off/on the Bluetooth... any clues? If you're talking about the Bluetooth fix package, I noticed the same thing. Afterward I went into the file it should have modified and noticed there was still an entry that contained an idProduct of 8448. (In addition to one that was 8449) So I edited that to 8449, cleared the cache and rebooted. Then it worked fine. Not sure if there were two entries the package needed to modify or if it just modified the wrong one? YMMV |

I'm having a heck of a time getting the brightness controls to work. I've added the two custom triggers, but every time I use them Quicksilver seems to freeze up. I've yet to see any change ... Anyone else run into this and have a fix?

it is the same fix i tested and working, the first entry is for built-in cards, and these cards in some models are identified as dongle, thats why probably didnt work for some of you...
i only changed the first one to avoid conflict.... as you can see there are many ids there, with same name with additiona of P, D, Dongle etc... looks like gotta change the other one as well, but dont know if it will cause conflict, so i will add two versions in one installer for people to try.... |

Hi, If I remember correctly this looks like the instructions I used to enable the bluetooth on/off functionality, I found it on another forum somewhere... The file you need to edit is /System/Library/Extensions/IOBluetoothFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/BroadcomUSBBluetoothHCIController.kext/Contents/Info.plist e.g. #sudo vi /System/Library/Extensions/IOBluetoothFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/BroadcomUSBBluetoothHCIController.kext/Contents/Info.plist In this file you should find the following... <key>idProduct</key> <integer>8448</integer> <key>idVendor</key> <integer>2652</integer> Change the 8448 to 8449 Save the file then remove /System/Library/Extensions.mkext , then reboot. e.g. #sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext #sudo reboot -n In this "Info.plist" there are two recurrences of "8448". I only changed the first recurrence (at line 41 of 280) and it works. Probably it's completely equivalent... but I prefer to "sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions/" instead of deleting ".mkext" file. At startup, OSX rebuilds ".mkext" file if Extensions/ directory has a more recent modification date. Thanks! |

... So I'd like to ask someone who has the ISO to diff it against this image and send me the patch. It should not be too large, right? I was told that the PPF patch itself is 1.5GB. That just can't be right! That is more than some complete Leopard releases! The patch is only supposed to only include the difference from the original ISO, which can't be that much. Where am I mistaken? |

PS: I'm successfully using the "old" version of SuperHai's VoodooPower called GenericCPUPowerManagement.kext or something similarly unpronounceable ;-) That one works for me without any problems. Witch version is the "old" version? 1.1.0? Is it the version that's on Superhai´s webpage? |

toc: that is the fix i made already, but some of the bluetooth devices seems to be identifying istelf as dongle some internal, thats why it doesnt match for some people... i will include both ids replaced in my next patch so it should work just fine for everyone. also no need to delete mkext or touch as it will be automatically be updated...
sim sam sung: it can be as big as it can get mate depending on what you use! the 1.5 gb ppf is a diff for jas original 10.5.4 to convert to 10.5.6 dvd... the 10.5.6 combo update already is 700mb in size plus other essential changes were done here and there (including exctracting original 1gb+ data out of the dvd and adding new ones)... which changes structure of the dvd already, thats why the diff is huge... |

Borderline genius work Mysticus.
Is anyone else having issues with the Dell 1490 wireless card ? My card actually works, but every time I boot up, I have to turn airport on by opening network prefs, selecting my network name from the drop down list, and then selecting 'apply' The airport icon on the top right shows as if there is no signal, when there blatantly is plenty of signal. In the system profiler, the airport card is showing as being turned off, when its on. The card works, but its just a bit of a pain that it's not automatically on, and finding my network when I boot up. Has anyone else experienced this at all ? |

Well, I was wondering why there wasn't any complaint about the missing power-on tune But I can understand that point a lil' bit... I think many people want to have a real OS X inside a Samsung body. |
