Bluetooth On/Off

I noticed when I first installed OSx that the option to turn Bluetooth On/Off was greyed out in the menu, and also if you booted with a Bluetooth device connect then it would cause Bluetooh to turn off. For anyone else having this problem, both issues can be fixed by editing the Info.plist file in the Bluetooth Kext. I can dig out the change when I get home if anyone is interested.

thanks for sharing your experience. I'd be interested in your bluetooth "fix" as I've been cursed by this problem too. My solution so far was to use a small application called "blueutil" to switch the bluetooth on after booting up. It doesn't really switch bluetooth on/off I guess but just sets something which makes OS X think that the bluetooth module is now available.

sorry, i'm a complete noob here, i tried to read as many pages as i could. But i still don't understand. Do i first need to install mac os x thru windosx86 into my computer and then use this dvd file to upgrade or can i just run the 10.5.6 dvd from mbato's links straight from xp and it will install? and is the difference between mysticus's method and installing windosx86 just that it'll have 10.5.6 instead of 10.5.4 or does mysticus's nc10 dvd have kexts and stuff(no idea how kexts work yet) that already fix issues. I know it must be frustrating for u mysticus when u try to put things in as simple terms as possible and people like me still outnoob ur intentions lol.

If I remember correctly this looks like the instructions I used to enable the bluetooth on/off functionality, I found it on another forum somewhere...

The file you need to edit is /System/Library/Extensions/IOBluetoothFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/BroadcomUSBBluetoothHCIController.kext/Contents/Info.plist

e.g. #sudo vi /System/Library/Extensions/IOBluetoothFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/BroadcomUSBBluetoothHCIController.kext/Contents/Info.plist

In this file you should find the following...

<key>idProduct</key>
<integer>8448</integer>
<key>idVendor</key>
<integer>2652</integer>


Change the 8448 to 8449

Save the file then remove /System/Library/Extensions.mkext , then reboot.

e.g. #sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
#sudo reboot -n

Hi everybody and again thanks Mysticus C for all of your efforts to make OSX on NC10 possible.

I am a recent owner of the Samsung NC10, bought at Dixons tax free at Heathrow airport.
I am a mac user so the first thing I did was to read along the web to find how to install leopard on the machine and I have reached this forum.
I have installed OSX using a Jas 10.5.4 patched with the PPF to the Samsung NC10 10.5.6 iso and then using the ddmac method illustrated in the MysticusC's guide.
The installation was straightforward and everything works as described.
But I have two major concerns:

- VGA out is not working for me:( This is one of the reason I have bought a netbook. I travel a lot and I give presentations at training events, conference. And I would like to use the VGA out of the Samsung NC10 to connect it to a video projector. Unluckly in my tests, trying to connect both to a 19 LCD monitor and a 32 LCD TV I have the same results: using the standard resolution, with no mirrorig mode, I see on the external monitor that the mode is not supported. Trying to mirror the displays and lowering down the resolution I have got both of the screens totally fuzzied. If I disconnect the vga cable, the main netbook screen restores.
I have read that VGA out was working. Maybe it was with 10.5.5 and stop working with 10.5.6? Is there any fix to this??? (reapplying kext from 10.5.5 or re-installing with a 10.5.5 patched ISO?) What is your experience with 10.5.6 and VGA out?

- the second one is related to bluetooth. Because I travel a lot, often I stay several hours on the planes. I would be nice to use the NC10 to watch some movie. But having the bluetooth on a plane, it's not a safety behaviour. Is there a way to switch off the bluetooth adapter?
I haven't still bought the WIFI replacement card, but in that case, I could also switch on/off this one, correct?

If both of this problem can't be fixed, I have to probably consider other options (do you know if the MSI Wind suffers of the same problems?)

Other minor concerns I have experienced so far:

- the netbook doesn't go sleeping just closing the lid: I need to press Fn+esc or select the option from the apple menu
- if I pair my samsung with my Macbook pro where I turned on Bluetooth internet sharing, I see that two network adapters Bluetooth Network and Bluetooth PAN need to be configured on my NC10. But going to network preferences I don't see any devices to configure. Additionally, the Bluetooth Setup Assistant can't be closed clicking on the Quit button and bluetooth stop working (both the menu bar icon becomes gray and discovery new devices not works anymore, even after restarting: at every boot a Bluetooth network request appears).
- At every boot, the message window that says Samsung NC10-10.5.6 volume cannot be reparaible and available with limited funcionality appears. It says it needs reformat. This is quite annoying
- touchpad vertical sensitivity is too high in comparizon to horizontal one.
- headphone is not working, but I have seen there is a script here that let me swich between internal speakers and this one that I will try soon.


Please let me know if there is any solution to the VGA out and bluetooth on issues, otherwise I will need to sell this nice blue baby.

There are many different "builds" out there for putting OSX on various non-Mac machinese: ideneb, Jas, windosx86, etc., and they all have various differences in terms of what they install (I can't tell you the details of those differences because I'm too much of a noob myself to know). Mysticus' guide uses the Jas 10.5.4 version in combination with Mac updates and various fixes he's developed (Thanks Mysticus!). If you follow his guide, then you need to download the Jas ISO, or there is a mysticus version of the Jas ISO specifically for the NC10 out there too - all of this is outlined in great detail in the guide. You should read it to understand these basic questions.

FYI - I, however, am running windosx86, 10.5.4, on my NC10. I then used the Mac combo update to 10.5.6, and ran Mysticus' fix to make the update work. I then followed the stuff after about page 105 of his guide to do various patches for brightness. I also had to install the AzaliaAudio.pkg in order to get sound back coming out of my speakers (still no internal mic, line in or line out though). No matter what, I strongly recommend reading the available in a link on the first post of this board before proceeding. It will answer a lot of questions.

thanks a lot djkwai!!!! am i right in this is what you did, you followed this:
ISO upgrade process:
a+ You copy files (10.5.6 combo update and your current iso) to your root partition
b+ You run the DVD upgrade installer package.
c+ Choose step 1 (copies necessary update files to a temp folder in the root)
d+ Choose step 2 (only ONE of the 6 sub options needs to be choosen. eg jas dvd 10.5.5 upgrade to 10.5.6) (Note: there are 3 options for ddmac, and 3 options for iso upgrade, only ONE should be chosen that you need-- DO NOT CHOOSE MORE THAN ONE)
e+ choose step 3 (deleting the temp folder)
f+ If you have done everything correctly, dvd upgrade will run some scripts (series of basically terminal commands, like a batch *.bat file in dos)

where you have installed windosx86 10.5.4 already. you boot up into os x and then u placed the combo update and windosx86( assuming the "current iso" in this case is windosx86?) into ur root drive and ran the dvd upgrade installer package?

i guess the most important part and the simplest part i dont understand is that are these upgrades for when ur alreadying running mac os x 10.5.4 or 10.5.5 and want to get into 10.5.6 or is it a full setup i can just install straight from xp and get into 10.5.6 without having installed osx yet. i'm assuming u have to have installed osx first so that u can run the dvd upgrade in the root(osx) drive? sorry for being so all over the place

It depends on how you do it. If you go the windosx86 route, you can do the ddmac procedure described by Mysticus or you can simply install it via an external dvd drive (making sure you've created the proper partition for it). Once that is installed, you then make sure you have mysticus' 10.5.6 fix downloaded and sitting on your desktop, and make sure you download the 10.5.6 combo update from Apple. Run the combo update, stopping short of the restart at the end. Then do the Mysticus fix, then do the restart.

Okay, out of respect for the rest of the folks who are using this board, I think we should discontinue this particular thread of discussion, as it is WAY behind where everyone else is at.

Besides, I'm anxious to see what Mysticus has to say about the full audio fix which has been rumored to be coming...

i will definetely incorporate all the changes and additional workaround into future and current distro through ppfs...

most of u now has 10.5.6 iso already so al the changes in ppf should not take more than couple of MBs...

LAN? no driver? we cant do anything,
WIFI, no driver (not counting the buggy method) so only way is through bcm145x series wifis at the moment...
Bluetooth, didnt check the work around yet but wen i check and confirm, it is easy to make an installer to fix the issue...
Sound: I am still waiting for the Voodoo team to supply the driver, from the early stage, they had too many testers so, i got off the bus, but getting news from dense closely, as he mentioned everything is working proparly and well! just small kinks being worked out, and after that it will be out in the wild... soon (cant give a date since i m not the one making it, sorry)

Apart from these obvious stuffs, we are not behind anything... Also soon enough, i will be ordering the touchscreen as well...

we already have the latest apple release of 10.5.6 in our netbooks... but we cant do much about things we dont have any control...

hahaha no mysticus he didn't mean we are behind in development. he meant that MY noobish discussion with him in the couple previous posts are way behind where every1 else in this thread is at meaning while i was still in the beginning stages of installing os x, every1 else is at a more advanced stage having already installed os x and updated to 10.5.6 and discussing future fixes or more advanced problems. He and I both know we've come a long way with this thanks to people like you.

Sorry for the confusion! I was purely referring to the exchange between myself and rukawa . You've done great work here, and certainly where we all have gotten our NC10 up to right now is NOT behind anyone else!!!! Once voodoo comes through with the sound driver, I think our OSX NC10s will be untouchable...

nope. mysticus made a post-10.5.6 patch that you can download at Biketown: nc10_10.5.6_install.pkg.zip is the name of the file.

Then you will still have to do the brightness fix, trackpad fix, and you "might" have to do the AzaliaAudio (I say "might" because I wasn't sure if I had to do this because I had messed up something earlier). You can find the Azalia around the boards.

I foolishly installed Windows7 over my XP partition (I had both XP and OSX running well, with the bootloader at startup giving me the option to choose).

Now Windows7 boots automatically, as it has overwritten the bootloader installed by the OSX86 DVD.

I'm ashamed to say I'm a bit of a noob to multibooting, so I need to know how to reinstall that bootloader so I can choose the OS at startup. I also want to boot into OSX by default, not Windows.

Please let me know what to do, my OSX partition is still there, I just can't boot into it.

Your help is much appreciated.

Please follow the instructions to get the adjusted brightness level after sleep or reboot:

1. You will need to install Sleep Watcher

When sleep watcher installs it creates a couple of new files in your /etc directory
rc.sleep
rc.wakeup

2. Set wake up and sleep commands
you will need to edit /etc/rc.sleep file

go to the end of the file. Add a return or two for blank space and add the following lines.

reggie_se -D PCI -i 16 -r -a 0xF4 -B 32 2>&1 | grep 'Offset' | cut -d 'x' -f 3 | cut -d ' ' -f 1 > /etc/last_brightness

(Change 16 to be your PCI number.)

Save your file


Next edit the wakeup file
/etc/rc.wakeup

again, go to the end of the file and add a few blank lines and add:

BRN=$(cat /etc/last_brightness)
reggie_se -D PCI -i 16 -w 0x$BRN -a 0xF4 -B 32

(Change 16 to be your PCI number.)

After that let the computer go to sleep and when it wakes up, the monitor will restore to it's previously saved brightness level.

Hi,

I'm not sure of the exact steps....but you need to get a file called "chain0" (do a google search) and place this on the root of your Windows partition. You then need to make a change to add an entry into the Vista bootloader (again I've never done this).

The other thing you could try is setting your OSX partition to the active partition (you should be able to do this with the diskpart command line utility thats included in windows) as what is probably happened is that the Vista installer has set the Windows partition to active instead of the OSX one...

I know its not the exact steps but hopefully points you in the right direction...
