Not sure what's happening but ....
... if you can get into BIOS utility then start up EZ Flash 2 and choose the old BIOS I'm running Kaly's 0803 mod BIOS. I had not problems with it. |

DocShadow,
With the main chip (the writable and also badly flashed one) in the main socket the machine doesn't boot at all. No screen, no bios utility or EZ flash. With the backup chip (the non writable one) in the main socket on the mobo, the machine does startup but there is no option to rewrite the bad chip that is in the other socket. So, you can put util on floppy but that doesnt help because you cant flash the chip in the backup-socket and in main socket it doesn't boot the floppy. BiTRiP |

BiTrip,
OK. I had an old board that I screwed up the BIOS. I picked up a chip from a friend and replaced the bad one with it. I booted up the board, removed his chip and replaced with mine. The did a BIOS update. At this time I don't know or recommended that you do it with this board. Looks like I need to read the User Guide. Having said that .... have you tried booting from the DVD. I believe it may contain a bootable BIOS. I say that 'cause I' setting up another build using an M2N. When I left the OEM DVD in the drive it booted from the DVD into an OS and asked what I want to run. Doc |

@DocShadow:
Indeed, there was a file called P5Q3D.rom on the CD but your trick didn't work. @Bitrip: Thanks a lot for replying so fast. I'll swap them when I'm less nervous : I don't wanna screw the pins. So they don't live up to the claim "Diehard bios". I'll email them too then. Because I don't wanna stick with just one read-only chip , whatever bios version it has. |

Thnx DocShadow, that was a tip that I didn't think of.....I booted with the backupchip in the mainsocket, then started up EZ Flash. Before selecting an old working ROM I removed the bioschip from the mobo (while it was still running) and replaced it with the bad flashed bioschip.
Then I pressed ENTER to write flash again. Scary but cool, it works. Thanks. |

How was the partionen you used to copy the CD to formated? HFS+? Yes. I created a logical (I was afraid I'd need a primary parition, but the logical one worked just fine) 4gb partition. I then formatted it with the HFS+ file system. I booted an older version of OSX (Tiger) in VMware (as I didn't get the Leopard DVD to boot in VMware), and then I used the disc utility to copy the DVD image to the partition. And after that I only had to boot it as you normally do with an install DVD. One good thing about this is that the installation process is really fast. I installed OSX in 10 minutes! Good luck |

Creepy!!! But I wanna give it a try too, even if I know I can {censored} everything up by trying to do this. Which one is the backup chip in motherboard layout 2.2.1, left or right?

The left one (the one closest to the pci slots) is the backup chip and the right one is the main chip.
Just be carefull and pull it straight out, not one side then the other. Good luck BiTRiP |

Woot!
Thank you guys for saving me from the RMA procedure. I hot-swapped the bios chips and flashed with the official bios v.1103. I'll try Bitrip's mod another day as I'm not good at modding even though I followed the guide precisely. I dunno what went wrong. |

Just flash your bios with the rom above that I modded and you are just fine.
No special things to do more then flashing like the original. BiTRiP |

Hi Ranix, would you mind posting the ALCInject.kext and AppleHDA.kext, I cant get my 80863a3e working. with plist editor, open /System/Library/Extensions/ALCInject.Kext/Contents/Info.plist He added the string "<string>pci8086,3a3e</ string>" as shown in the picture
Imagen_2.png ( 74.73K )
Number of downloads: 370Closes plist editor and save it when you ask. Now open with plist editor /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleHDAController.kext/Contents/Info.plist And in "IOPCIPrimaryMatch" adds your audio device as shown in the picture "0x3a3e808"
Imagen_3.png ( 84.55K )
Number of downloads: 289Closes plist editor and save it when you ask. If you want to go disk utility and repair permissions, but you do not have. reboot and check, Already, and you did not work? the truth is that it also was tested AppleHDAPatcher and codec 0888, if you're not working this may have to do Do not I can confirm right now. Saludos. |

just wondering, don't you just put the essential files for reflashing the BIOS onto a flash drive (FAT not NTFS) like said on ASUS site.

BiTRiP, your bios mod is working fine. Maybe it should added to the osrom bios index.
For me Leo4All v3 and v4beta working fine. Since iATKos v2, v3, v4 is Intel only, I tryed it first - but with no luke. Even the installer is not starting. Don't know why this release is so hyped. Maybe we should open an extra thread for the ASUS P5Q motherboards and how things get done. |
