MSI Neo2 FR - Running 10.5.4 Perfectly (Tutorial), Audio/Video/USB/Multicore all working perfectly |
Welcome to the Genius Bar. Here's how this forum works:

Chances are, if you've seen the same question asked over and over again, you should write a guide for it.
2. This is not the forum for asking questions. If you have a question about a thread that's already here, feel free to ask it.
Just don't start a thread for a specific question. Use the other forums here for that.

I am running 10.5.7 retail with the Neo2. Everything is working fine except Chameleon (always need to boot via 132-Boot DVD) and I am not able to use any USB Mass Storage Device. If I plug in a USB Stick or Hard Disk OSX instantly freezes and I have to reset the PC. Anyone else expierienced this problem and has a solution for it?

Anybody luck with Snow?
No matter what i've tried so far, i always get kernel panic (unknown) + "no OS version set". I hope this is not bios related. |

Although i wanted to buy a more compatible board this week.....
I did it I saw the Snow Leo Desktop, Internet was working... then it kernel panicked (mdworker) I guess it's only a permission issue, what i've read. After diner, i will try to fix it... cross your fingers, seems that our Neo2 can run Snow Leopard |

notinthisworld: using modified 1.8 bios
ok the bootloader was the problem all the time.... AAR just installed Chameleon 2.0 RC3 http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=184766 now my usb-snow-leo disk boots up (thought i completely busted the installation after numerous fixing attempts) ... ![]() this are files i used (from various snow leo installation tutorial threads) ![]() of course custom DSDT.aml, and edited platform UIID in smbios and the kext. didn't try sound yet (i am using pci sound card, onboard is disabled through bios) SATA controller or some ports are not being recognized, one hdd is missing i had to create new user, since permissions completely were busted by default (i guess my fault somehow during installation-aftermath), diskutility can't repair permissions, due to lack of "installer package" seems, to install snow from snow (again) fixes this... http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi...hp/t182343.html Graphics with EFI strings work, Ethernet without modifying anything. nice ! |

10.6.1 running almost perfect. (sound (esi juli@) +network+graphics)
permissions repair error got solved by installing BSD.pkg from DVD. only thing i still can't figure out is SATA. still only 1 (of 3) internal hdd + DVD show up. |

osinstall.mpkg from 10.5.8 (internal SATA) to USB-hdd. + Chameleon 2 RC 3 ![]() rocksolid iamhappy: Glad to hear that everything is working out for you ;P. I have since swapped my board for a gbyte p45 and I haven't attempted to install osx onto my old MSI board for quite some time now. Since I created this thread, I have learned a lot about installing/running osx with an almost completely Vanilla setup thanks to DSDT and chameleon rc1+ (E/E folder). I always felt that the MSI board was rock solid, and although I moved to a board which is a bit easier to work with in terms of installing osx I kind of miss trying to get the MSI to work flawlessly ;P (sleep was always an issue). So how is the SL install? Sleep/shutdown/restart working as they should? Do you still require a modded bios for multicore cpu's? kk |

I have no clue if modded bios is still required, i still use the one from the tutorial. Snow runs like a charm, except 64bit and 32bit kernel work, i have to use 32bit though because of my soundcard kext (esi juli@), but who gives since the apps run in 64 bit Gfx (8600gt) works with EFI strings, LAN out of the box, even system profiler reports right cpu speed (E2140 @ 3 Ghz) for the first time (never worked in 10.5.x). |

@iamhappy;
Would you be so kind and help some of the noobs out. Could you write down your BIOS settings and mayby describe the steps you took to install. Do you really require a modified BIOS, or is this DSDT thing solving the problem? TIA, -niels |

TIA, -niels ah crap, this email notification doesn't work well here.... sorry i am sadly no pro. basically i have the same bios settings as knew know suggested in post #1 + i 'm using the 1.8 moddified by kabyl (again from post #1). since i want to make a cpu upgrade asap, and my choice (Q9550 E0 stepping) requires "7345v1A.zip" - 1A..... i HOPE somebody here has the 1A bios running and gives confirmation that snow works. i can live with -no sleep - never worked before really what i can say: with 1.8kabyl you can generate a custom DSDT.aml file with no errors. Snow works perfect with the steps from posts above, i can't really say though if it's because of the dsdt.aml somebody tested/tests other bios? going to write down step-by-step when i install again in the next week, |
