QUOTE (Tuckers @ Jan 2 2009, 03:14 AM) *
I got the Dell 1490 wireless card and installed it tonight. I tried using the Dell driver for XP, but it says I don't have compatible hardware. Does anyone have a link to the Broadcom driver for XP?

Mysticus let me handle this...
ok... for those having trouble getting thei nc10 up and running. If you have an older distro or a different distro make a back up, and clean install the Mysticus nc10 follow the version 2 pdf its pretty easy he really took all the thinking out of it. You cant expect Mysticus to help you fix a problem that is probably linked to a different distro.

Now tuckers...I know you are probably a mac user so i will go easy on you... and not yell...
Go to add new hardware in win xp, it will recognize the wifi card and ask to search online for drivers click the no I have the disk option and select the folder where you unziped the 1490 you downloaded there will be a folder called driver once you do that windows will search for the broadcam driver and install it done.

if that doesnt make sense then stay out of the XP side. if you have a 1505 card like me, same procedure just download the 15xx driver installer. that simple. I am sorry to be an ass on here. but I read each post and many people just discovering this forum chime in on thr 51st page havent read 1-50. I know its a lot of cr@apola to go thru so here are some helpful tips I saved them for last as you guys seem to read the end before reading the beginning.

If you want a flawless install read download the pdf version 2 and read it 3 times I dont care if you understand it on the first run read it three times. then install. if once the install is finished you still have problems start on the beginning of this forum and read every post

if someone asks again about multi touch or drivers for original lan or original wifi. I may go insane.
Let mysticus or his boy finish the last 2 things being worked on.

Sorry mysticus I had to say it.. I dont like it when people get snippy on n00bs, I have been yelled at quite a lot in my day. You did a marvelous job putting this a together. But I needed to put in my 2 cents. If I offended anyone suck it up... you'll live.

Hello!

I know i had a really bad start... smile.gif

And im sorry for that, im really thankfull for the hard work you have done to get macosx working on the NC10! And i know you have more important things to do than answering to all the repeating questions.

But now i have a problem where i couldnt find an answer in a lot of threats and topics, and maybe you can help me:

i want to use the headphone switch, so i installed the CHUD from Biketown. But for this development tool i dont find a script.

Then i found a shell script which was made for the MSI Wind and edited by a user called adie to work for the NC10, but this one doesnt work for me(it breaks with an error "unaligned base adress"). I tried in the way described here , without the quicksilverpart. Normally i use Linux so i know how to handle with the terminal... Maybe because it was created for the MSIWindosx86.iso and there are different drivers?

Can anybody give me a link to a working script to switch between headphones and internal speakers? This would be great!

Thanks a lot!

lol mate people already asking for snow leopard...
why waste your time with a beta?

If it was full retail final then i could see the attraction, but not beta..

new appltv and mini reported coming out. Not sure about mini, but appletv reported on having an atom processor. could have more native support, something to look ahead to you know dip your toes in, get your feet wet. I am not asking for a Snow leopard NC10 iso. but like blade said a lil tooling around couldnt hurt...

There may not be much benefit to loading Snow Leopard on Atom-based machines. The 64-bit OS is the real draw with SL and the Atom, if my memory is correct, is not a true 64-bit CPU. We would save on smaller file sizes for the Applications (Intel-only and streamlined codebase), but this is supposed to be a speed/engine overhaul release rather than the usual feature-rich Apple 10.x versions. Of course, we should know more about what is in store next week after the Macworld keynote...

I just got my Dell DW1490 WLAN card and installed it. Works great in Mac OS, no problems at all. HOWEVER, I guess I need a driver to hook it up on the XP side. Can someone hold my hand and walk through the details? I can't seem to get any of the Dell drivers I've downloaded to work. Maybe a specific driver version to start?

The only thing confusing about installing the DW 1490 is that it appears the wire terminals are reversed from the OEM card. The Dell card had a sticker that had a black circle at one terminal and a white circle at the other, and I assumed that meant "hook the black wire to the black dot" and vise-versa....

for XP first connect to internet using ethernet and then search for windows update, you will find a hardware update available as broadcom wireless install update and reboot. In vista it will work out of the box.OR if u install xp after installing the card it will work automatically.

Yeah, first I had the same question. But that's correct, black cable to white port and vice versa. Don't know why the colors are vv, but if you compare on some pictures of the stock card and the Dell, you will find aux and main printed next to the ports. And aux and main are at the same position on both cards, just the color is vv.

Hi Guys,

I have got an error like this everytime when i start up,

The disk "Samsung NC10" was not
repairable by this computer. It is being made available to you with limited functionality.
You must back up your data and reformat the disk as soon as possible.

Things were working fine until one time the computer did not shut down properly and this error message pops up since then everytime when i start up. Does anyone know what to do in order to get rid of this error message?

Note: i installed using the NC10 10.5.6 ISO linked in biketown.

Thanks.

it is happens because the drive is kind of read only (although u can still write files inside) therefore system can not fix it (you can try disk fix once if you like)... what you can do is boot into windows, delete the ddmac partition and re create it... and do ddmac into that partition again... should not take very long time...

thanks Mysticus, solved it.
Just wondering what caused it and how to prevent it from happening again?

Uh, well now I have to wonder... I plugged the white cable into the "white" marked port on the Dell 1490 and the black into the black. Airport worked fine first time. XP drivers won't seem to install correctly. Hmmm...

Well, I don't think that this will make a big difference. Maybe there's absolutely no difference to original way of configuration or you just will have a little less good wifi-link.
Did you try to install at XP like posted above? Connecting via lan-cable and auto-update windows? I found the following driver for XP from the german dell site (I'm in germany):

http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downl...p;fileid=281722

You could try this, should work.

aBirch,

Windows did not find the driver automatically, as the other poster mentioned. If yours doesn't, you will need to find the driver for the 1490 on the Dell support site. Download it, then run the executable. It will install the drivers in a directory c:\dell . . . It will also run the dell install wizard, which failed on me. So to take ACarters suggestion, you need to go the old fashioned way and use the Add Hardware wizard in the Control Panel. When it asks for your driver, navigate to the c:\dell . . . path to find the drivers and run the install. This worked for me.

It's been a long time since I used the Add Hardware Wizard! that's why I didn't think of it before.

for Dell 1490 with XP:

- download driver and NOT run Setup.exe; u must install driver by Control Panel -> System etc etc and select c:\dell directory wink.gif

Ok, then I have a problem. The new revision of GMA950 driver have artifact with external VGA display... Mysticus can you post old pkg from 1.0 installation package?
